I was a little bored these past few days so I decided to write a MAP viewing utility. So far so good:

Don’t know; I initially wanted to know if I could figure out how to generate polygons off a .MAP file, which I’ve done. It’s a lot faster at rendering then Hammer and can load a 6000 brush .MAP file with textures in about 5 seconds. (It's written mostly in managed C++.)

All it can do right now is render the scene in Textured, Solid, Wireframe, and Point mode. It also has extremely basic directional lighting and can hide special textures.

Given a few hours I can probably clean up the GUI and release it, unless anyone has any feature requests… It could be made to load .RMF files too now that I know their format.

sounds cool. You ever gonna make your own map editor. Nemcraft , or maybe nak(nem army knife) ,since your a quarkian. :)

Because Valve is only revamping the Hammer editor for HL2 I've been thinking of making my own. Of course I'll have to wait for HL2 to be released first...

have you thought about including a leak finder/tracer
that looks at the pts file and well, tries to outline leaks better then well for instance, valves program?

ive never tried quark for HL, i didnt much like it for Q1

anyways this is super kool man, GJ :-)

Loading of .pts files should be no problem to add.

1. You have to buy Half-Life 2
2. You have to register it with Steam (or just buy it on Steam)
3. You have to download the SDK on Steam

Do you even own HL2 or CS:S?

Do you even have steam installed?

And why can't you download it?

If you own any HL2/Source games (i.e. purchased them through Steam or retail), then you can download the SDK via Steam. Valve World Editor is part of the SDK.

hey - off topic maybe, but has anyone figured out how to fix the "failed to initalize texture system" ? I have everything set up the way it's supose to be and nothing's conflicting. I came apon this in a search for a VMF viewer. I'm going crazy man!

Also - does your map viewer view VMF files? Just out of cheriosity

I take it that is a Hammer (or Steam) error message? In which case I have no clue...

This viewer does not support .vmf files, I am working on a replacement which offers more less full support, but it wont be out for a while, perhaps a month or two for a beta.
