About virtuAMP - NemPosted: Jul 4th, 2007 - 3:10:16 pm

virtuAMP is an open source real time virtual guitar amplifier for your home computer. virtuAMP provides an intuitive interface for customizing your sound through a virtual pedalboard, which behaves as your existing guitar rig does, allowing you to place effect pedals, connect them using cables and control their sound using their controls. Your guitar connects directly to virtuAMP through your sound card's line in, making virtuAMP a good substitute for a practice amplifier.

Audio Samples:

Each of these audio samples were captured by virtuAMP from my guitar (a Fender Stratocaster) connected directly to my sound card. No post processing was added, only Audacity was used to convert the .wav file to .mp3.

Have you specified a file that it will record to?

when i click on the AUDIO button the window opens with the list of options. one of them is RECORDING PROPERTIES.
when i click on that...nothing happens. also nothing happens when i click on PLAYBACK PROPERTIES.
when i click the FILE button and then click on SAVE or SAVE AS..i can save a file as an .VAP file, this is the only file option offered....and i can open this file using AUDACITY. and importing it as RAW DATA...but this file is nothing. it is just noise and play's very fast...like zippppp..i have no idea what this is....
i hope i am explaining this ok.
i know this is not the way this program is supposed to work.
i am very new at using this virtual amp but i would like to figuar it out. sorry if i'm sounding pretty stupid.
what are the proper steps to play a tune and saving what i've played..?...that is what i need to figuar out.
thank you for any help you can give me. i really do apreciate it.

This is what you want.

The .VAP file is a "VirtuAMP Preset" file. It saves your pedal layout.

well...i give up...what i set up doesn't stay that way..when i close the program down and then restart it i have to set up every thing all over again......ive tried saving and save as...that only saves a ,VAP file...this is too confusing for me...and the recorder pedal only works..once in a great while....clicking on it doesn't always make it turn on...sometimes...
this is too frustrating for me....
this should come with a user manual ?
....thank you tho.....

You have to specify a file every time the app runs.

I cannot plug in directly from guitar to line-in on my pc..

Nothing happens...

I have the converter (1/4 to 1/8), and everything.

My guitar amp is a Randall RG-125-212 Jaguar.

I recall having to plug up all sorts of things on the amplifier, to even get this program to work...

Sadly, theres at least 20 different ways it could possibly hook up, but only 1 is the right way.

Might be what you want.

Nem, you freaking rock. I have used GCFscape before and was impressed there was someone out there creating and maintaining a program like this for free, but I had no idea you'd made so many other helpful things too. I look forward to trying this guitar effects program out later on at home. You seem like a hell of a guy, just wanted to let you know it makes me feel just a PINCH better about the world to know there are people who do great stuff like this for free. And I'm a pretty cynical guy, so that's no small accomplishment.

i found this software while searching google for a free guitar amp software, so i thought i would give this a go, the only problem im having is that my laptop's microphone jack doesnt work, so i use a behringer guitar/usb input, but i cant get it to connect to the virtuAMP. any possibility of some help with this?
