Crafty v1.0.0 Alpha 13 - NemPosted: Jan 20th, 2007 - 7:31:11 pm

I've released v1.0.0 Alpha 13 of Crafty, a release which adds several missing features bringing Crafty significantly closer to leaving the alpha stage. The latest build can be found here. Some important notes:

  • Due to changes in the lightmap generation code for Source VBSP files, upgrading users should make sure to set the Gamma for Source VBSP files to 2.2 in Object Viewer's Options (found under the Setup menu).
  • Users who were experiencing problems with fonts should insure that the Engine.FontDriver setting in Object Viewer's INI file (ov.ini) is set to Sprite, or, as a last resort, Null. If you cannot find this setting, run Object Viewer once beforehand.
  • Dynamic Lighting is very much a work in progress. I've added shader support to Crafty to better simulate how the Source engine dynamically lights models, but the improved dynamic lighting pipeline wont be available unto the next release.

Nice viewer. One problem tough and I hope someone can help me. I have extracted maps and textures from CS:S. Map loads without textures and models. Exactly where, in what directories, should I place textures and models. Thanks! where

As long as Crafty is setup right, you don't have to extract anything to view a map, not even the .bsp (you can open the .bsp from the .gcf in the File System Browser (View menu) after you select your profile).

If you're using CS resources in HL2, just make sure the resources are where HL2 can find them and Crafty should find them too.

If you're using resources HL2 can't find, then you can mount them in the File System Browser after you've selected your profile. It doesn't really matter where you mount them, Crafty should figure it out.

If you're working on a MOD that is not found in the Profile list, see the FAQ for how to add it.

Do you have a kind of road map for Crafty? What will be definitively implemented up to the date of the first final version?

I've also a little suggestion: It would be nice to see proportion and size information of every brush of a loaded bsp, vmf, etc. in the map viewer.

There is no real "road map" for Crafty, however, the two main features I'd like to complete for the non-alpha release are corrected VBSP lighting and model animation support. Other features I'd like to add after that include:
  • The ability to walk around levels/physics.
  • The ability to view/edit entity information.
  • The ability to view/edit/create textures.
People continuously ask for the ability to view BSP brush sizes, but brushes are removed from the BSP in the CSG stage.

Thank you for the reply!

These features sound very nice!

Maybe it would help to add an otpion to let render every brush in a kind of grid. The grid size could be adjusted by the user himself (like in hammer to change it to 64x64 for example) to get the round sizes of a brush. I don't know whether it would works as I think...
